C: I heard you’re going to Tainan tomorrow.
聽說你明天要去台南。

P: That’s right. I’m going on a sightseeing trip with a friend. Where do you think we should go?

C: You should definitely visit Anping Fort 安平古堡. That’s where the Dutch were based when they controlled Taiwan.

P: The Dutch were in Taiwan?

C: Yeah, you didn’t know? They ruled the island for almost 40 years.

P: Wow! So how long ago was that?

C: It all happened in the 17th century. They had to leave when a Chinese army came and defeated them.

C: They set up some schools, but they also tried to tax people.

P: Oh, OK. Were they unpopular leaders?
哦，好吧，那他們是不受歡迎的統治者嗎？

C: Some people may not have liked their rule. At Anping Fort, you’ll see a statue of the man who led the army that defeated them.
有些人不喜歡他們的統治方法。安平古堡就有一尊雕像刻了率領軍隊反抗他們的人。

C: Koxinga.
