如同中文字的發展有其淵源，許多英文單字也有其背後的故事
★humor [ˋhjumɚ] (名) 幽默；性情
humor本指「體液」，古希臘的醫學理論認為人體四種體液（血液、痰、黃膽汁、黑膽汁）的比例，決定一個人的性情。因此humor 有「性情」的意思，後衍生為「幽默」。
【例句】
Because Mark has a good sense of humor, he makes friends easily.
馬克很有幽默感，所以很容易就交到朋友。
★mind [maɪnd] (名) 頭腦；心智 (動) 介意；留心；照料
本指「思考」，古人認為心臟為靈魂與思考的中樞，因而有「心智；頭腦」等含義。
【例句】
At first, the girl decided to buy the shoes, but one minute later, she changed her mind.
起初女孩決定買下那雙鞋子，但是一分鐘之後她改變了主意。
They didn't mind waiting more than an hour for their food; it was the waiter's manner that they didn't like.
他們不介意等餐超過一個小時，他們不喜歡的是服務生的態度。
★complexion [kəmˋplɛkʃən] (名) 膚色；氣色；特徵
源自古法文complession（體液總和），古時認為人的身體組成或氣質是由四種體液組成所決定。
【例句】
My complexion has suffered since I've lived in this industrial city.
自從住在這個工業城裡，我的膚況就一直不佳。
【名言】
Wherever there is a human being, I see God-given rights inherent in that being, whatever may be the sex or complexion.
任何地方的人，不管是什麼性別或膚色的人，都擁有上天所賦的權利。

★cancer [ˋkænsɚ] (名) 癌症；（大寫）巨蟹星座
源於希臘文karkinos（螃蟹；腫瘤；巨蟹星座）。古希臘醫生發現癌細胞周圍浮腫的血管，和螃蟹的外形相似，因此cancer 既指螃蟹，也指腫瘤。
【例句】
Laura collapsed after learning that her husband had incurable lung cancer.
蘿拉得知她丈夫得了無法治癒的肺癌後，整個人崩潰。
